Coimbatore: In Coimbatore, police shot dead a kidnapper of two children when he tried to escape from police custody earlier on Tuesday morning.
Mohanraj had allegedly kidnapped seven-year-old Rithik and his 10-year-old sister two weeks ago and later threw them into the river in the fear of getting caught. He later confessed to the crime and was in police custody. But that encounter made it to the state assembly with an AIADMK MLA Badar Sayeed claiming it was staged.
Mohanraj snatched a police revolver and opened fire injuring two sub-inspectors while he was being taken to the scene of crime for reconstruction.
It was just after this incident in Coimbatore that a kidnap had taken place in Chennai. And though the accused were caught in both instances, several questions were raised on the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. And given the fact that the home ministry is under the chief minister, the opposition is ensuring that the law and order issue is raised and discussed in the Assembly.
