CHENNAI: The Doctors’ Association for Social Equality has asked the Centre to persuade Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa and his government to allow supply of medical aid and assistance from them to the Sri Lankan Tamils in the island nation. Led by State General Secretary of the association Dr G R Ravindranath, doctors and medical students staged a protest outside the Memorial Hall here on Sunday. “The centre should obtain permission from the Sri Lankan government to allow medical teams from India and rest of the world to work in the Tamil dwellings in Sri Lanka,” he said. Though the war ended almost two years ago, there were still many healthcare concerns in the North and Eastern parts of the Emerald Isle, they claimed. Film directors Sakthivel and Mahendran participated.
