Islamabad: President Pervez Musharraf has hinted at opting for international mediation for the resolution of the Kashmir issue if it is not settled through bilateral talks with India.
"This is the best available opportunity for the two sides to resolve this dispute as international community also wants the issue to be settled," The Nation newspaper quoted Musharraf as saying at the concluding session of Pakistani envoys' conference on Thursday.
The President said three rounds of the composite dialogue process have taken place but no tangible progress has been made for the resolution of the Kashmir dispute.
He reiterated that the comprehensive dialogue process and confidence building measures should move in tandem.
"If anyone of the two fails, then the whole dialogue process will be affected," he said.
According to a Foreign Office statement, the four-day Envoys' Conference reviewed a wide range of foreign policy issues, the role of economic diplomacy and positive projection of Pakistan.
Several ministers and senior civil and military officials made presentations on relevant subjects, the statement added.
The President expressed appreciation for the important role being played by the Foreign Office and Pakistan Missions abroad in advancing the country's foreign policy objectives.
Musharraf focused on the great potential of Pakistan to offer an energy corridor and be hub of economic activity in the region.
He underscored the importance of deepening Islamabad's relations with major powers, continuing the peace process with India and resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute and further strengthening of relations with the Muslim world.
The President reaffirmed Pakistan's policies about fighting terrorism and extremism and promoting moderation.
