Orissa steel executive burnt alive, one arrested
Sacked workers set ablaze a top executive of a steel plant in Orissa, one person is arrested.

Bolangir (Orissa): A senior officer of a private steel company was burnt alive by suspended factory workers at Titlagarh on Thursday.

Titlagarh, where the is incident took place is tense - One person has been arrested.

R S Roy, deputy general manager (Operations) of Graphite India Ltd-Powmex steel division was coming out of the plant in a jeep along with two others during lunch break when the incident took place, SP Ajaya Kumar Sadangi said.

Eye witnesses say the suspended workers, who had been staging a dharna outside the plant, stopped the jeep and asked the driver and the two others to get off, after which they set the vehicle on fire with Roy sitting inside.

“Union people caught hold of him and burnt him alive,” said the driver.

"Some of the suspended workers, who were staging a dharna outside the plant for the past several months, stopped the car and asked the driver and others to disembark," said Sadangi.

Ray was admitted to hospital with 90 per cent burns, but succumbed to his injuries.

"He was admitted at around 4.20 pm with 90 per cent burns. We could only see the feet. At around 5.05 pm, he expired," said Dr Usharani Das of Bolangir Head Hospital.

Powmex steel plant is shut today. One person has been arrested for the killing.
