Opposition stands by vendors

KOCHI: Corporation opposition Leader K J Jacob alleged that the mayor was incompetent in providing a solution to vendors residing under the North rail Overbridge (RoB). “The mayor had promised the vendors that they would be rehabilitated before any dismantling work would progress on the RoB, but unfortunately the mayor has become a man who cannot keep his word,” Jacob said.The vendors who were in a state of shock on Sunday morning, following the demolition of the bay of the Bridge have decided to wait for Monday’s council meeting before taking any action. “But in the meantime, we are requesting the mayor not to evict the vendors before any  rehabilition measures are taken,” the opposition said.They also stated that reconstruction work of the RoB and the construction of the flyover connecting Rajaji road and Salim Rajan road should be done speedily so that the metro project could become a reality.
