New Delhi: A photo of a triumphant Barack Obama tightly hugging his wife Michelle right after the news of his US Presidential election victory has set a Facebook and Twitter record. The picture with the simple caption 'four more years' has been 'liked' 2.1 million times on the social media site.

"With more than 2.1 million likes, this Barack Obama photo is the most-liked Facebook photo of all time," announced Facebook on November 7. It was also the most retweeted photo ever.

The photo has made social media history is all about strong emotions. It shows a thankful Obama, eyes closed, caught in a private moment with his wife as TV networks announced his victory.

The photo has been retweeted 774,076 and 'favourited' 273,085 times at the time of writing this report.

The last time a photo was this popular, it was Justin Bieber paying tribute to a fan who died of brain cancer.

Obama won the popular vote narrowly, the electoral vote comfortably, and the battleground states where the campaign was principally waged in a landslide. The president carried seven of the nine states where he, Romney and their allies spent nearly $1 billion on television commercials, winning Ohio, Wisconsin, Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, Colorado and Virginia. The Republican challenger won North Carolina, and Florida remained too close to call.

He made an impassioned victory speech saying "Michelle, I have never loved you more. I have never been prouder to watch the rest of America fall in love with you, too".
