NSCN-K terrorists sneak into India for revenge attack, say reports; Centre sounds high alert across Northeast
The alert was sounded by Centre hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high level meeting of top security officials and ministers.

Amid the euphoria over the killing of militants by Indian Army in a special operation in Myanmar, the government on Thursday sounded high security alert across the northeastern part of the country.

The alert was sounded following reports that some NSCN-K terrorists had sneaked into the Indian territory to carry out a revenge attack.

According to inputs, around 2O terrorists belonging to NSCN-K, PLA, ULFA and other groups like the newly-formed United National Liberation Front of West South East Asia crossed the Indo-Myanmar border with the intention of revenge attacks after Tuesday's surgical strike by Army, sources privy to the discussion said.

Reports of militants entering into India came hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting of top security officials, Defence Minister, Home Minister and National Security Advisor.

This latest development comes amid India and Myanmar differing over where the Indian Army actually carried out its operation. While Myanmar claims that Indian soldiers did not cross into its territory, India continues to insist that the terror camps which were destroyed in the operation were in Myanmar.

The operation by the Indian Army in Myanmar where it reportedly destroyed terror camps has been hailed as a bold move across party lines in the country.

Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar even said that the successful operation by the Army had changed the mindset towards India.

The hot pursuit of Northeast terror groups inside Myanmar was completed in just 30 minutes by 40 commandos of Indian Army's 21 Para Special Forces. The surgical strike was carried out in retaliation to the June 4 ambush in Manipur's Chandel district in which 18 soldiers of 6 Dogra Regiment were martyred. The response from New Delhi was almost immediate and deadly.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wanted a "swift response" and decided that a strong retaliatory counter offensive was needed to send a clear message: "You hit us, we will hit you badly."

Two days after the Manipur ambush NSA Ajit Doval on June 6 held a meeting with General Suhag, Research & Analysis Wing and Intelligence Chief chiefs, the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) and chief of Army Intelligence. Very few people knew what was being planned. The Home and Defence Ministry along with the Manipur government were briefly informed about the strikes.

Finally, the war room decided to carry out the operation and Army's elite 21 Para Special Forces are assigned to carry out the surgical strikes. Both the NSA and R&AW chief are in Manipur to supervise the operations and aim to quickly finish the strike so that there is no casualty on the Indian side.
