CHENNAI: Forensic medical experts contacted by Express for a possible explanation of the two-year-old boy’s death inside a car, opined that the incident could have possibly been caused either by exhaust fumes finding their way into the car or from noxious gases escaping from the A/C compressor. While maintaining that it could at best be a surmise, the boy could have died due to carbon monoxide poisoning. The forensic experts stated that the death could not have happened if the A/C was running without any fault, which would have kept the air circulation intact. To further elucidate their point, they cited the example that most of us drive cars in the sun, with the A/C working at full capacity, with the windows up, for hours without any problem. That was because the A/C kept the air in circulation.Discounting the other theory that the baby could have been dehydrated due to the scorching sun, in the event that the A/C was accidentally switched off, the experts said that even in that case the baby would have only fainted. Perhaps a post-mortem and a thorough inquiry will give clearer answers.
