Jaipur: The students in Jaipur now get the opportunity to evaluate and grade their teachers for their performance in class.
Increasing number of private run schools in the Pink City of Rajasthan state are adopting the "Teachers Assessment" programme, to improve their educational standards.
Teacher's Assessment by students, a system widely famous in the western countries is now finding it foot in the Indian education system.
"There are eleven parameters that we give to the child and on some given date, the teacher has to be evaluated on the eleven parameters, which are like clarity in speech, whether the teacher is innovative in her methods, whether she is reaching out to all the students.
So these are the very parameters which we give on the basis of which the students are evaluating," says a principal of a private school, Bela Joshi.
The teachers, who were first reluctant, since the students would mostly fail them, are now more optimistic about the test.
They feel the system gives them a chance to improve themselves and get better results out from the students.
"Teacher appraisal is a very good initiative, which the students do as they also feel they have a say in the matters. And as they give the results accordingly the teachers also try to improve themselves."
The assessment of a teacher is based on several parameters like speech skills, knowledge of subject, friendly behavior, promptness to job etc.
The main beneficiaries of the newly introduced system are the children, who apart from pointing out the loopholes in the teachings method also get a chance to improve the educational system.
They feel proud as they find an opportunity to give marks to their teachers.
"This concept is very successful because by the grades we give to the teachers, they can improve their teaching skills and the teaching patterns so the students can understand better," said a student Surabhi Bhatia.
Educationists have advised that such methods should be introduced in Government run schools to improve the quality of education.
