Notices have been issued to six Pakistanis living in Ballia for not renewing their visas, days after a probe was ordered into reports that they were availing facilities at par with Indian nationals.

"Six Pakistanis living in Ballia on long-term visas have not got them renewed," Additional Superintendent of Police K C Goswami said on Tuesday. These Pakistanis have been issued notices asking them to get their visas renewed or else action would be taken against them, Goswami said, adding that they have been told that it is illegal to reside in India without getting the visas renewed.

The development comes days after the district magistrate ordered a probe into reports that eight Pakistani nationals living in Ballia on long-term visas have got ration cards and voter ID cards made in their names and were availing facilities at par with Indian nationals.

Intelligence sources said that notices have been issued to four Pakistanis living in Nagra area and one each in Bansdeeh and Sikanderpur areas.  All these Pakistanis are women. One of them had come to India in 1992 while the others had come in 1965, the sources said. As per the rule, application for renewal of a visa has to be given two months before its expiry.
