Not a Wilful Defaulter, Ready to Pay Token Amount: Mallya to SC
Mallya said attempts are being made to work out a negotiated settlement with banks which gave loans to Kingfisher Airlines.

Business tycoon Vijay Mallya on Thursday filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court saying he is not a wilful defaulter and that he is willing to pay a token amount to prove his bona fides.

Mallya claimed in the affidavit that Kingfisher Airlines was a genuine business failure and that attempts are being made to work out a negotiated settlement with banks which gave loans to the airline company.

The chairman of the defunct airline further declared that banks have no right to any information about his overseas assets, adding that he is ready to file that information to the court in a sealed envelope.

According to the affidavit, Mallya is willing to deposit a token money of Rs 1591 crore to prove his bona fides.

This comes a day after a Hyderabad court convicted the business tycoon in a cheating case filed by GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. The court also issued a fresh non bailable warrant against Mallya and his former CFO A Raghunathan.

On April 18, Enforcement Directorate officials had said that they would seek an interpol arrest warrant against Mallya based on a non-bailable warrant issued against him.

Officials said the agency would soon write to the global police body, through the Indian nodal office of the CBI, to get issued a Red Corner Notice (RCN) against Mallya, who had left the country on March 2 and is said to be in UK at present.

A Special PMLA Court had on Monday issued the non-bailable warrant against the former liquor baron, rejecting Kingfisher's plea challenging ED's claim that Rs 430 crore was siphoned off to acquire properties abroad.
