THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Dr Shashi Tharoor has said that the Indian sports domain is still plagued by ‘The frog in the well syndrome.’ He was speaking at the inauguration of the three-day  international workshop organised by SAI, LNCPE Kariavattom in Thiruvananthapuram.“Historically speaking, it was not same in the past. The country was open to the outside world. Events like this would help us open up and learn things so that we can in turn teach the world later. There is no reason why we can’t be best in everything we do. As long as someone somewhere is doing better than the rest, then you have a scope to improve,” he said.On the first day of the workshop, noted Italian Strength and Conditioning (S&C) expert Carlo Buzzichelli deliberated on various aspects of strength training and periodisation of training routine. He provided hands-on training on sophisticated exercise regimen to to a handful of enthusiastic sports buffs and fitness gurus who came from various Indian  states.Buzzichelli made a presentation on the ‘Significance of periodisation in training.’ He delved into the minute details on the concept of training, countering criticisms that the programme is obsolete and too rigid.Buzichelli meticulously described how proper exercise, with varying intensity and load, could help the trainees to attain best results. The theme of his presentation focused on the concept that undulating training routine provides maximum benefit. He also lectured on how the nervous system facilitates expression of muscular strength. Regarding micro-cycle organisation strategy for strength and power development, he said  non-linear progression is more effective to elicit positive neuro-muscular adaptations. He introduced the micro-cycle with suitable presentations as a group of training units that is repeated cyclically for almost a week.All-India Football Federation Technical Director Robert Baan, FIFA technical director (Academies) Scott O’Donell, Arjuna Awardee Ashwini Nachappa and Olympian K M Beenamol  also were present.
