COIMBATORE: Even as the industries in the city were forced to shut down on the first day of the power holiday system introduced by the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation TANGEDCO, some small and medium scale industries were seething about the unequal distribution of electricity. Over 25,000 industries in the district remained closed and incurred a loss up to `200 crore due to the power holiday on Thursday. While all the industries had to be shutdown, some MNCs were exempted much to the chagrin of the entrepreneurs. Alleging that the 1600 Multinational Corporations in the city did not have to face the power holiday, J James, District President, Tamil Nadu Association of Cottage and Micro Enterprises (TACT) said, “We have to bear the red-ink due to the power holiday though the MNCs are functioning. We seek an equal distribution of power through all the sectors so that the loss we incur may be marginally reduced. The 40,000 industries under TACT had to incur a total production loss of `300 crore on this one power holiday. We seek that we should be supplied uninterrupted power for the five-working days and exempted from the four-hour power shutdown so that we may be able to recover the loss incurred.”
