A day after 6,800 people from North-Eastern states left Bangalore fearing attacks, the state government reassured the community by stating that there is no need to panic as the entire state machinery is with them.
Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, Home Minister R Ashok and senior police officers met N-E community representatives at the CM’s official residence ‘Krishna’ on Thursday. “We will do everything possible to protect you. There is no need to worry or leave Bangalore in panic,” Shettar told them.
To instil confidence among the community that is shattered by rumours spreading like wildfire, the government has taken a number measures such as starting a helpline, forming a special team to swiftly act on complaints, increasing police patrolling, holding peace committee meetings, jurisdictional police meeting landlords where the North-Eastern community members reside and guarding houses left behind by people who left the city on Wednesday.
After the meeting, the Chief Minister told reporters the community representatives have brought to the government’s notice some minor incidents in the last two days and appealed for more security.
“We have told them to trust the government and stay here as providing security to them is our responsibility,” Shettar said.
“There is no need for people of the Northeast to leave the city. In case they encounter any problems, they can call the helpline or nodal officer, and a special team will immediately rush to their aid in 10 minutes,” Ashok assured.
