Cricket World Cup 2023: Trent Boult 3rd Quickest in ODI History to Claim 200 Wickets
Trent Boult has become the third quickest bowler in ODIs to complete the milestone of 200 wickets.

Trent Boult has become the quickest ever New Zealand bowler and third overall in ODI history to claim 200 wickets. Boult reached the milestone during his team’s third match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against Bangladesh in Chennai on Friday.

Boult began in terrific fashion when he got rid of Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal for a golden duck off what was the first delivery of the match. He later returned for another spell to get rid of Towhid Hridoy who became his 200th victim in ODIs.

The left-arm quick achieved the feat in his 107th ODI after having made his debut in the format in July 2012.

Another left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc of Australia holds the record for being the fastest to 200 ODI wickets having reached there in 102 games. Pakistan spin legend Saqlain Mushtaq played 104 ODIs for his 200th wicket and  is second quickest to do so.

“Nice to tick it off and on a bigger note, nice to keep Bangladesh to a decent total there and hopefully we can chase it down,” Boult said in chat with the world cup broadcasters after New Zealand kept Bangladesh 245/9 in 50 overs.

“The One-Day format has been the format I have enjoyed over the years and I feel very lucky to be out here, in a few World Cups, and contribute for my team,” he added.

Last year in August, Boult gave up his national contract to spend more time with his family and also so he can be available for T20 leagues.

And after not playing an ODI for nearly a year, he was called up for a four-match series in England earlier this year as part of New Zealand’s preparations for the world cup.

Boult is hoping New Zealand can lift the world cup trophy that they have come so agonisingly close to winning on two occasions in a row now.

In 2015, New Zealand suffered a batting collapse in the final against Australia and then England edged past them on boundary counts four years later in London after the contest ended in a tie even after the Super Over.

New Zealand have started their world cup campaign with impressive wins over England and the Netherlands.
