No Moharram procession would be taken out in Gorakhpur owing to the tense situation prevailing in the area.

Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh: Gorakhpur city is tense after violent protests against BJP MP Yogi Adityanath’s arrest on Sunday night.

Due to the prevailing tension in the area, the police officials decided not to allow religious procession of Moharram to be taken out on Tuesday.

District police chief S K Bhagat said the decision was taken after consultation with the Muslim Ulemas. "It has been agreed that only a symbolic procession will be taken out," said Bhagat.

Meanwhile the administration relaxed the curfew for three hours. The new district magistrate and SSP had met the arrested BJP MP Yogi Adityanath in the district jail on Sunday in a bid to defuse the tension prevailing in the city and adjoining districts following his arrest.

Barring a report of torching of some vehicles in Khorabar area, no fresh incident of violence was reported from anywhere until Tuesday evening.
