NC initiated truce with Hizb: Omar
Omar Abdullah said that it was his father's government that had facilitated peace talks with the Hizbul Mujahideen.

Srinagar: In a sensational disclosure, National Conference (NC) President Omar Abdullah said his NC government had got the Hizbul Mujahideen into the loop and persuaded it to strike a truce and start negotiations with the Centre.

Contrary to reports that the Hizbul Mujahideen started talks with the Centre only after they got certain assurances, Omar said that instead it was his father, Farooqh Abdullah's government that had facilitated the talks.

"The party was facing flak from all quarters as it was made to believe that the National Congress had subverted the talks," he said.

He also criticised former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed for only providing lip service and doing little to continue their dialogue with the Hizbul Mujahideen.

Omar Abdullah was on Sunday elected unopposed as the National Conference President for a second consecutive term.

2747 of over 7000 delegates had proposed Abdullah's name for the post and other delegates unanimously seconded the proposal.

In a speech given on Sunday after his re-election as NC president, Omar accused Mufti of poaching his party members by offering them hefty bribes and inducements.
