KOCHI: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said that security is the key to a country’s progress and that the nation is safe in the hands of our soldiers.He was speaking after inaugurating the Sainik rest house and conference hall at Kakkanad on Monday. Chandy said that preparations are in full swing to build another Sainik rest house in Malappuram. The Sainik rest house at Kakkanad is the fifth centre in the state, the others being in Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Thrissur and Alappuzha. Shyama Sasikumar, Wife of late Col. K P Shasi Kumar, Veer Chakra, Sharada Das, Wife of Late Sub Sreedhara Das, Veera Chakra, Lt. Gen M G Gireesh Retd), Vice-Admiral R P Suthan(Retd), Col K B R Pilla (Retd), Major Ravi (Retd), Captain Raju (Retd), Capt (Dr) K R Sukumaran (Retd) and M V Thamban were honoured on the occasion. Excise Minister K Babu delivered the Keynote address and Benny Behnan MLA presided over. Commodore M R Ajaykumar, K K Govindan Nair, Director, Zilla Sainik Welfare, and P J Jacob, District Sainik Welfare Officer were also present.
