New Delhi: A release with 1200 prints is not an easy feat to achieve for any Telugu film but director SS Rajamouli's forthcoming film 'Naan Ee' is going to have a similar opening. The film features Sudeep, Nani and Samantha in the lead roles.
This Telugu-Tamil bi-lingual is a fantasy film which showcases a character’s transformation from a human to a housefly. Sudeep is playing a negative role in the film.
The film’s highlight is its effects which are aimed at bringing the character of a housefly alive on the screen. The total budget of ‘Naan Ee’ is Rs 26 crore, out of which Rs 7 crore are spent on special effects only. The makers are planning to release the film in 3D version also.
Elaborate preparations were done before taking the story to the floors. Earlier it was said that James Floyd would don the hat of cinematographer but later Rajamouli’s favourite cameraman KK Senthilkumar was called to shoot the film. Both have worked together on projects such as ‘Magadheera’ and ‘Yamadonga’ in the past.
Shooting for a film keeping the 3D version in the mind is not a usual habit in regional film industries, so the camera department was needed to get extra cautious during the shoot. Further the story features an animated housefly in a major part of the film which can express the storyline only with body movements, and creating a believable body language for such a character is a tedious task by any standard.
Leave aside the regional films, even the big budget Bollywood films have not flaunted good technical skills to come up with a good sci-fi film so far. Technologically, ‘Ra.One’ is probably the most advanced Indian film till date but its standard was not very close to Hollywood films. Rs 26 crore budget can appear whooping for a Telugu film but will it be apt enough to infuse life in the animated housefly? Let’s wait for July 6 when ‘Naan Ee’ aka ‘Eega’ will go public.
