Mumbai train blasts 'almost' solved
Mumbai Police Commissioner and Deputy CM say probe almost complete, announcement will be made soon.

Mumbai: Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister and Mumbai’s police commissioner on Wednesday said the investigation into the July 11 serial blasts in local trains is almost over.

The investigations were at a "concrete stage" and the perpetrators of the crime would be bought to book soon, said Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil, who is in charge of the Home Ministry.

Patil refused to give more information on the issue saying it would hamper the investigations.

When asked about the involvement of any particular terror outfit, Patil said, "We have not reached at any conclusion regarding it. Police is working in the right direction and at the right pace."

Patil said it was inappropriate to speculate that the serial train blasts and the Malegaon blasts of September 8 were connected as RDX was used in both the incidents.

The investigators have got some clues in the Malegaon blasts case. Patil said the state government was serious about intelligence gathering and also announced that 50 per cent of the recruitment in the state intelligence department would now be made directly.

"In view of having a specialised cadre, we decided to have 50 per cent direct recruitment in the department rather than deputing the state police cadre for three years," he said at function to disburse compensation to the victims of the 7/11 blasts.

Director General of Police P S Pasricha, who was also present, said that adequate security arrangements were being made in view of Navratri and Dusshera festivals across the state and appealed the revellers to be alert.

Meanwhile, two suspects in the train blasts have allegedly confessed to their links with international terror outfits during scientific tests carried out in a Bangalore forensic science laboratory, sources in the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS said.

Muzamil Sheikh and his brother Faisal Sheikh admitted links as revealed by the ATS in its remand application while seeking extension of their before a local court on Monday.

But the Police Commissioner declined to comment on the ongoing investigations by the ATS sleuths.
