Mumbai: A former encounter specialist, who had been absconding for the past few weeks following allegations of rape, has been found dead. Senior Police Inspector Arun Borude's body was found near the railway tracks in Srirampur city in Ahmednagar district on Wednesday.
Police are verifying if Bourde's death is a suicide or an accident. The incident reportedly happened at around 11.45 am on Wednesday.
Mumbai Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Himanshu Roy said that Borude's body was identified by his relative and an identity card bearing his name was recovered from the body.
"Arun Borude was hit by a train near a level crossing at Srirampur in Ahmadnagar district. He was taken to the nearest hospital with multiple injuries. Doctors at the hospital said that Arun Borude requires specialised treatment so he was shifted to a super speciality hospital in Shirdi and was declared dead before arrival at Shirdi," said Roy.
"At this stage we are unable to say whether it was a suicide or an accident. Police are investigating the case and post mortem will be conducted. Eyewitnesses if any will be examined. a complete picture will come out once the investigations are over," he said.
Borude had been dismissed from the services following allegations of raping a minor.
He has been absconding since November 9 following registration of FIR against him and four others on November 1 for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl on several occasions between February and March 2010 in a flat in the building 'Emerald Court' in Mumbai's Powai area.
Borude resided with his family in an adjacent flat. The rape incident came to light when the victim gave birth to a baby girl in October in a suburban hospital.
The Bombay High Court had on December 20 rejected his anticipatory bail application.
