New Delhi: The Special TADA court for the 1993 Bombay blasts case has awarded six years rigorous imprisonment to four policemen on Monday.
All four were convicted for allowing the passage of RDX and arms to Mumbai prior to the serial blasts.
The court had found the four policemen, Ashok Muleshwar, PM Mahadik, Ramesj Mali and SY Pashilkar, guilty under TADA for abetting a terrorist act. The guilty will also pay a fine of Rs 25,000.
Another guilty, Mansoor Ahmed Sayyed Ahmed, was sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and ordered to pay a fine of Rs 50,000 for taking arms out of actor Sanjay Dutt's residence.
On Friday, five convicts held guilty under the Customs Act for helping in smuggling of arms and ammunition were awarded a maximum sentence of three-year rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 25,000.
Meanwhile, actor Sanjay Dutt could be heading for trouble yet again as the TADA court has summoned him in the Mumbai blasts case.
The special TADA court, that exempted the actor from appearance on Friday due to ill health, has asked him to appear on May 25.
Besides Dutt, some other 1993 serial blasts convicts have sought relief under Probation of Offenders Act (POA), which empowers a court to release a person who has been found guilty of a crime that is not punishable by a life or death sentence.
Relief under POA is subject to a convict's conduct and fulfilling some conditions.
The court is expected to give the minor sentences first before moving on to the major convictions. So, the sentences will be given out in batches.
The court has already acquitted 23 of the 123 accused in the case.
