Microsoft Corporation India Pvt Ltd concluded the national finals of Imagine Cup 2006. More than 12,000 students participated in the competition.

Bangalore: Microsoft Corporation India Pvt Ltd on Monday concluded the national finals of Imagine Cup 2006 in Bangalore. More than 12,000 students from across the country participated in this year's competition, which concluded in Bangalore on Monday. 12 teams showcased their software solutions in front an expert panel of judges.

The winning team will now compete in the worldwide finals of Imagine Cup in August 2006 at Agra, India for the total prize money of Rs 12.5 lakhs.

Imagine Cup, which has entered its fourth year, is a global contest held by Microsoft to provide student innovators from across the world a platform to showcase their software development skills.

Microsoft Imagine Cup empowers students to apply their creativity, knowledge and technical abilities towards making the world a better place through technology, and to encourage students to develop applications that are relevant in today's context.

Talking about Imagine Cup, Sheila Gulati, Director - Developer and Platform Evangelism, Microsoft India says, "The amazing thing about this generation of students is that they have the unique ability to look at broad social issues and infuse fresh thoughts into how these can be addressed. At Microsoft, we believe that it is important to harness this extraordinary talent at an early stage and are committed to helping students leverage their skills and make a difference at a truly global level."

The theme for this year’s Imagine Cup 2006 is 'imagine a world where technology enables us to live healthier lives', and Microsoft has encouraged students to develop applications that address the healthcare issues facing the current day world. This is in keeping with the company's endeavor to create a platform that helps address emerging global challenges.

"In the past, we have seen some truly remarkable solutions being created during the course of the Imagine Cup. Based on this, we have chosen healthcare as the theme for this year - since healthcare is an area that affects the lives of millions across the world, and technology can play a pivotal role in improving the healthcare situation. We are excited to work with this young generation of innovators and to provide them with a platform to showcase their creativity," added Gulati.

Among the students and colleges that participated in the Imagine Cup 2006 National Finals were - Anjali, Sumit Vij, Rahul Mittal, Sunny Gupta and Saurabh Mehta from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Rorkee; Suvankar Das Gupta from Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shibpur; Parag Kulkarni, Tanushree Jindal, Vasudhara Kantroo, Himanshu Pokhariya, Deepak Jagdish, Mohit Gupta, Rahul Sawhney and Shreyas Nangia from Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information & Communication Technology (DA-IICT), Gandhinagar.

Among others were - Yashwardhan Singh and K. Ashwin Kumar from Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad; Abhishek Singh and Natarajan S from NIT, Jamshedpur; Shekhar Bhardwaj, Prashant Khatri, Subin Panicker and Vaibhav Mathur from RIET, Jaipur; M. Vijay Daniel, R. Vijay, K. Barath and B. Arvind Gopalaswamy from SSN College of Engineering, Chennai; Udayan Khurana, Ankur Gulati, Sundeep Singh and Ankush Mehta Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology and Nityananda, Mohan and Kiran from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Bangalore.
