NABARANGPUR: A four-year-old girl who had to stay in the jail for the last nine months because of her parents, finally walked out free on Saturday. The girl, Naibi, is the daughter of Pabitra Harijan and Haravati of Manigam village under Dabugam village.While Pabitra was convicted in a murder case and is undergoing sentence in Koraput jail since long, mother Haravati too was prosecuted in a similar case and sent to Umerkote jail this March. Since Naibi was a kid, Haravati took her along to the jail.Both mother and daughter remained in Umerkote jail till the case was transferred for hearing to Nabarangpur District Court here in May. Accordingly, the two were brought to the local jail here.The incident came to the administration’s notice a few days back when District Sessions Judge Bibhu Prasad Routray along with Collector Sivabrata Dash and SP Niti Sekhar visited the jail. Surprised to find the minor in jail in violation of child rights, the officials immediately directed the administrative officials concerned to shift the child.Naibi was shifted to Deendayal Upadhaya Balikashram here on Saturday by the officials of Women and Child Development Department.
