CHENNAI: Thirty-two-year-year-old Alex Paul Menon, the first Collector of Sukma, who was abducted by Maoists on Saturday in Chhattisgarh, got married to Asha only about six months back in Chennai.Hailing from Tirunelveli, Paul Menon went to Rose Mary Matriculation Higher Secondary School in his hometown, then completed BE (Electronics and Communication) at the RVS College of Engineering and Technology, in Dindigul. After passing out in 2002, he came down to Chennai to prepare for the civil services examination and attended coaching classes at the Anna Institute. The 2006 batch IAS officer chose history and Tamil literature as his subjects for the finals and secured the 121st rank.Lakshmi Priya, Commissioner of Disciplinary Proceedings in Tirunelveli, who attended the same coaching institute and cleared civil services with him in 2006, said she spoke to him over telephone four days ago and he had mentioned an intelligence alert on Maoists’ plan to abduct him. Lakshmi Priya had urged him to be careful.Another batchmate, Ajay Yadav, Collector of Vellore, described Paul Menon as a “hardworking, brilliant and jovial person”. Yadav was worried about Menon’s safety and was keen on his safe return.
