BELGAUM: A handful of advocates, who disrupted a peaceful procession of the journalists in Belgaum on Monday, would have gone on the rampage but for the timely intervention of the police.Journalists took out a rally demanding a CBI investigation into the attack on media persons by advocates in Bangalore recently. However, when the procession reached the new Court Complex, a large group of advocates, said to be members of Belgaum Bar Association (BBA), tried to disrupt the procession.When BBA vice-president R P Patil objected to the protest, the journalists pointed out that the decision to hold stir had been taken at a peace meeting held at SP office on Sunday. Patil further alleged that media persons were targeting whole advocates’ community. However, BBA members, including president A G Mulwadmath were not ready to look at the memorandum and placards which carried slogans protesting against only a section of lawyers in Bangalore.Advocates Burn Copies of DailiesMembers of the Belgaum Bar Association (BBA), who had promised that they would not protest against the entire media community, at a peace meeting conducted by the DC and SP, failed to keep their words on Monday.Angry advocates burnt copies of English, Kannada, Marathi and Hindi dailies.
