The body of a 20-year-old medical student was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his house at Aminjikarai early on Sunday morning. The police said they were trying to ascertain the motive behind the death.
According to the police, the body of Abhishek (20), a second year medical student who lived in First Main Road, Shenoy Nagar was found hanging in a balcony attached to his room in the first floor of his house around 5 am.
Abhishek’s father Thiruvengadam, himself a medical practitioner, repeatedly knocked the door of the room but there was no response. Thiruvengadam then reportedly broke open the door, which was when he found his son hanging.
After Thiruvengadam raised an alarm, his family members, including elder son Siddharth, who is a house surgeon, rushed to the spot. Abhishek was taken to a private hospital nearby where he was declared brought dead, the police said. Police sources said the reason for his death was not known, as he did not leave any suicide note but added that Abhishek (20), who was in his second year of MBBS in a college at Kattankulathur, was good at academics.
Investigations were on to ascertain if the medical student had any issues in academics or whether there was any other personal reason behind the death, the police said, while added that they were also looking into where he visited last before Abhishek’s death.
An autopsy was conducted in Kilpauk Medical Hospital and later, his body handed over to his parents.
