Olympic Bronze medallist MC Mary Kom will start boxing training academies at various places in the country starting with the facility at Manipur which is going to come up soon.
The boxer, who was here to participate in a felicitation function organised for her by a private company at a star hotel, had shared some of her experiences at the 2012 London Olympics.
In order to participate in the world event, she had to put on weight as there was no category for boxers of her weight.
“Until then I used to fight in the 46-48 Kg category, but then I had to train and put on weight to participate in the 51 Kg group,” she said.
Kom said her semi-final exit at the Olympics after losing her match against Nikola Adams of the UK was sheer bad luck.
“I had a very tough fight before that, and when I went to fight her, my body was in real pain. That is why I lost. Next time I will win the gold for sure,” she said.
The five-time world champion said she had the measure of Nikola Adams when she lost by a narrow margin of 2 points against her at the AIBA World Boxing Championships earlier this year, which was the qualifying tournament for Olympics for her.
“Nikola is not that strong,” Kom said, blaming her defeat on a combination of factors.
She was presented with a 240 square yard plot on the occasion.
