MALKANGIRI: Armed Maoists attacked and ransacked a government-approved IMFL shop in Malkangiri district on Saturday. About 100 rebels, mostly women cadres, mounted an attack on the liquor shop at Padia under Kalimela police limits, about 75 km from here late on Saturday night.The attack marked the third day of the Martyr’s week that began on July 28. Eyewitnesses claimed that slogan-shouting armed ultras arrived on the town outskirts and organised a public meeting where they criticised the State Government for its anti-people policies. Later, they went in a procession to the liquor shop and ransacked it. This was the fourth attack by the ultras on the same shop. In a poster left behind, the Maoists stated that though the liquor shop was closed, the illegal business was going on. They threatened to set afire the outlet if the illegal business continued. The liquor shop is owned by a Malkangiri-based trader.The Maoists have been opposing sale of liquor and liquor outlets in the tribal-dominated backward district.Hardcore Maoist NabbedKeonjhar: A hardcore Maoist cadre was arrested in a joint operation by the CRPF and SOG from Katuniposi near Kaliahata under Telkoi police limits on Sunday. He was nabbed while he was pasting Maoist posters in the area. He has been identified as Babuli Murmu (27) of Ajayapur area. He was closely associated with Kalinga Nagar CPI (M) division chief Sushil. Police seized the posters and Maoist literature from his possession. He will be forwarded to court on Monday, SP Ashis Singh said.
