Chandigarh: Two Chandigarh residents said to have been abducted by Nepali Maoists were on their way back home on Wednesday.

The two men, Rajiv and Lucky Singh, had gone missing on Tuesday.

Local police officials said they got information from the ministry of home affairs that two Chandigarh residents had been abducted from a restaurant in Uttar Pradesh's Mohindergarh district on the India-Nepal border.

Lucky Singh's wife Gurdeep said she received a phone call from her husband on Wednesday morning saying they had been released and would be home by evening.

The abduction apparently took place after the duo got into an argument with locals and Maoists at the restaurant.

The Maoist guerrillas are then said to have taken them away forcibly.

Both the men had not told their families that they were headed to Nepal. Family members told reporters that the duo had said they were going to Dehradun to search for a job.
