Maoists kill 3 policemen in AP
Three policemen were killed and one severely injured when Maoist rebels attacked a police station in Andhra Pradesh on Friday.

Nalgonda: Three policemen were killed and one severely injured when Maoist rebels attacked a police station in Andhra Pradesh on Friday.

A dozen heavily armed rebels attacked Atmakur police station in Nalgonda district killing three police personnel, D Anuradha, Deputy Inspector General, Warangal range, said.

"The police station has no weapons, as this is not a sensitive station. The Naxals attacked the station and killed the sub-inspector and assistant sub-Inspector and the home guard on the spot. One constable was injured and he has been admitted to the hospital. We cannot make any further comments," she said.

The provincial government has announced a compensation of Rs 900,000 each to the families of deceased sub-Inspector and assistant sub-inspector. A compensation of Rs 500,000 to the family of the home guard has also been announced.

The incident comes barely a month after eight suspected Maoist rebels, including four women, were killed in the state by security forces in a shootout.

A senior Maoist leader was among those killed.
