Maoists demand Rs 1 cr as ransom
The Maoists, who abducted two officials of Nagarjuna Cement Limited on Monday, have demanded a ransom of Rs 1 crore.

Machilipatnam (Andhra Pradesh): Nine armed Maoists abducted Nagarjuna Cement Limited (NCL) Chief General Manager D V Ramaraju and Deputy Manager Sahik Ghalib from a construction site at Pinapaka Village in Krishna District on Monday evening.

Police sources say the Maoists came to the site and told the security guard they wanted to talk to the CGM. Soon after they met Ramaraju, they fired some rounds in the air and then whisked him away in a Tata Sumo.

Ghalib was also abducted along with the CGM. He had been once abducted by Maoists in Nalgonda District and later freed.

The Maoists have demanded a ransom of Rs 1 crore for the hostages. The DGP says that it is not an act of Maoists but people who have been trying to pose as Maoists.

Meanwhile, Chakrapani, a mediator at the talks held between Maoists and the government two years back, assured the relatives of the officials about their safety and said both of had been taken to Hyderabad.
