Mangalore curfew extended to Tuesday
Mangalore curfew extended to Tuesday
Its going to be another night at home for Mangaloreans as the curfew has been extended to 0700 hrs IST on Tuesday.

Mangalore: John Prasad Menezes has virtually been under house arrest for the past four days. The curfew imposed in Mangalore has crippled his business and with no immediate respite in sight, it's getting increasingly hard for him to contain his frustration.

"I would put it around Rs 70 crore per day and we have had practically four days of closure," says John who is the President, Canara Chamber of Commerce

The recent unrest has been detrimental for Mangalore, which was in the process of turning into an investment hotspot.

Over the last three years, Mangalore has gradually emerged as a prominent investment zone, primarily for power plants, oil refineries and IT companies.

However, the recent unrest seems like a major set back. Companies and banks are closed for the fourth consecutive day, but the residents have not lost hope yet.

Says HOD Political Science, Mangalore University, Professor P L Dharma, "Yes, the last few days have been worrying to the development of Mangalore, but this is just one incident and everyone will forget about it soon."

Menezes agrees and says, "Mangalroeans will not allow any adverse comment to come here in the near future."

The last few days of paralysed business will certainly effect the image of a city trying to be a major investment destination and one that is buzzing with over one lakh entrepreneurs. But the people of this city are just craving a return to normalcy and want to just get back to their work.

What's your reaction?
