Elegant interiors, composite driving console and PA system makes this high-capacity bus seem as good as the Metro.

New Delhi: Six new yellow buses are slated to hit Delhi?s roads today.

Plying on routes 620 and 42 these buses have a low, easy to climb on floor and a high capacity and promise to change the way Delhiites commute.

Our correspondent Urvashi Sibal hopped on for the very first ride.

The buses are bright yellow in colour, and are equipped with passenger communication system.

Spacious interiors, seatbelts, a digital destination display, plastic handrests and wide, pneumatic doors make travelling in these 'wonder' buses a pleasure for the passengers.

With 32 seats and ample place to stand, these buses can accomodate over 80 people.

Surendar Bahl a regular commuter says that he is very grateful to the government for introducing these new buses.

"The new bus is as good as the metro in any foreign city," says he.

The fares for these buses will not be very different from the other DTC and Blueline buses. People have to pay five rupees for upto four kilometres, and ten rupees to travel beyond.

New Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit says that another 200 buses will be added to the fleet depending on the response from the commuters.

Some faults however are already visible in the new bus. The ramp meant to help the disabled and the elderly is higher than the sidewalk, so even though there is room for wheelchairs inside, getting a wheelchair on the bus may be a bit of a task.

Nonetheless after the long painful hauls in local Blueline and DTC buses, a trip in these yellow buses has left Delhi commuters content and wanting more.

What's your reaction?
