KALADY : The initiative of the Vice-Chancellor to close the study centres on reformist leaders in Sree Sankaracharya Sanskrit University would lead to cultural deterioration, said Kerala Pulayar Maha Sabha (KPMS) district secretary K A Sibi here. He was inaugurating the leadership meet organised by Sanathana Dharma Suhruth Vedi in connection with the proposed ‘Siege of Sanskrit University’ on September 26 demanding that the authorities restore the study centres in the university. The study centres on reformists such as Adi Sankaracharya, Mahatma Gandhi, Sree Narayana Guru, Ayyamkali, Agamananda Swamikal and Chattambi Swamikal were closed down in the University under the initiative of the Vice-Chancellor. The Vedi has been demanding the restoration of the centres for a couple of years. They held many agitations but in vain. The blockade of the university was announced as a part of the ongoing agitation.   Prof K S R Panicker presided over the meet. Action council general convener Prof P V Peethambaran gave the details of the agitation. Elaborate arrangements have been made for the event. A two-day cultural programme will be held. More than 5,000 flags will be installed in Kalady. A chariot procession proclaiming the agitation on September 26 will be taken for two days. The flag day will be observed on September 16. About 10,000 activists would participate in the agitation, said Prof P V Peethambaran.
