Kochi Region brings cheers to KV students

KOCHI: Finally, the Kendriya Vidyalayas in the state have got a ‘region’ for themselves with the setting up of the Kochi Region, bringing smiles on students, teachers and parents of the state. The Kochi Region, set up a couple of days ago, is functioning temporarily at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kadavanthra.Earlier, the Kendriya Vidyalayas from Thiruvananthapuram to Kozhikode were under the  Chennai region and the remaining schools under the Bangalore region.Now all the 37 schools in Kerala will be under  a region based in Kerala. “We intend to construct the regional office in the KV school as it is centrally located and will send a proposal to the headquarters, said Ranveer Singh who took over as Deputy Commissioner of Kochi Region on Monday.“I have divided the schools into seven clusters with cluster coordinators for better communication and coordination. I will visit each school to understand the issues. Some schools have a shortage of teachers especially in Hindi and Social Science. We have the quantity as the strength in all schools is high. Now we intend to improve the quality. The class hours have also been increased by 80 minutes,” he said.When asked about the KV school proposed to be set up in Kakkanad, he said the District Collector has sent a proposal to the headquarters and the matter is under consideration. Only 4 acres of land has been set aside which is not enough. “We need at least five acres to have three and four sections,” he said. Teachers, students and parents have welcomed the move.“When there is a correction of name in  certificates or for any other issue we had to go to Chennai. Now a lot of time and energy can be saved,” said a parent in Kochi. “We had to make frequent visits to Chennai or Bangalore to sort out any issue. Now the  proximity of the regional office will make things easy,” said Sadanandan, regional secretary, KV Teachers Association.The bifurcation will help in bettering the administration and reduce hardships of parents, teachers and students, said N R Murali, deputy commissioner of Chennai Region.
