For a large gathering of children who had assembled at the Anjaneyar temple at the busy bazaar street, here on Wednesday, Vinayaga Chathurthi turned into a festival with a difference. The children were allowed to make Ganesha idols using clay that was provided. They could then take it home for the festival.
The programme was organised by the Maharashtra Mandali here. According to Balwanth Jagdale, coordinator of the programme in association with local NGO Udavum Ullangal, said, “We wanted the children to have a feel of the festival by creating their own clay idol.”
The thrilled children said that it was the first time they had the chance to make an idol of their favourite God Ganesha. Most were able to make the idol in various sizes and postures within fifteen minutes. Interestingly, many elders from the neighbourhood who had come to watch the children also joined in the fun.
