After an emergency cabinet meeting, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal extended the free electricity bill and subsidies scheme till March 31, 2025. The meeting took place at Delhi CM’s official residence to deliberate on the electricity subsidy being given in Delhi.

Announcing the decision on the microblogging site, X, CM Kejriwal congratulated the people of Delhi, adding that the free electricity scheme is now also extended to the lawyers’ chambers.

Finance Minister Atishi during the Delhi Budget announcement also stated that the provision of free electricity bills and subsidies will continue in 2024–2025.

The Energy Department’s budget for this fiscal year is Rs 3,353 crore, according to a proposal made by Delhi’s Finance Minister, Atishi, on March 4. Delhi has 58.86 lakh residential electricity consumers, and 68.33% of them are eligible for the subsidy.

Based on information released by the Delhi Government, 40.22 lakh residential consumers are now receiving subsidies for electricity from the Delhi Government.

The Delhi government also announced solar policy in January.

Under the Delhi Solar Policy 2024, people installing rooftop solar panels at home were supposed to get generation-based incentives. Last month, Kejriwal announced this policy, saying that consumers would be paid for solar power generation.

Under the policy, all government buildings having an area of 500 square meters would have to mandatorily install rooftop solar panels in the next three years, Kejriwal had said.

The 2016 policy of the Delhi government enabled the deployment of over 250 MW of rooftop solar plants within the city and around 1,250 MW of utility-scale solar plants, totaling 1,500 MW. This meets 7.2 percent of Delhi’s annual electricity demand.
