New Delhi: The US and Afghanistan seem to be in a war of words as President Karzai sought to explain his remarks accusing the US of meddling in Afghan affairs.
A few hours ago Karzai called US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to explain them, reaffirming close ties between the two.
Karzai, officials said, told Clinton that he had not meant to criticise the United States but rather Western news coverage of Afghanistan.
The apology came even as tensions between the two rise ahead of a planned meet in Afghanistan on May 1st.
