KURNOOL: A large number of pilgrims visited Srisailam temple on Monday on the auspicious Karteeka Masam. Monday is considered the most favourite day of Lord Shiva. Lakhs of devotees across the state thronged the temple town to have a darshn of the Lord.All streets in the town were teeming with devotees. After having a holy dip in Patala Ganga river, they joined the serpentine queues.
At the Lord Mallikarjuna on the Nallamalai Hills at Srisailam, a very popular pilgrimage centre for Shaivaites, devotees queued up since the morning to have a darshan of the Lord. The presiding deities are Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy, who is one of the 12 Jyothirlingas, and Goddess Bhramaramba Devi, who is one of the 18 Mahasakthis. Both deities are said to be selfmanifested. The devotees performed special poojas like Kumkumarchana, Rudrabhisekam to the deities on the occasion. According to temple executive officer Venkata Swamy over two lakh devotees visited the temple on Monday.

Meanwhile Sri Raja Rajeswara Swamy temple at Vemulawada registered a record collection of Rs. 21 lakh on Monday through Arjitha seva tickets. Devotees from farflung areas are visiting the temple.
