New Delhi: Newcomer Amit Sadh, doesn't mince words when he admits that that he took up 'Kai Po Che!' after going through many rejections. The actor who is making his Bollywood debut in the Abhishek Kapoor film, candidly spoke to IBNlive.com about his life and the years of struggle he went through before landing that 'dream' debut film.

A known face on television, Amit Sadh had gained considerable popularity playing the lead in serials like 'Kyun Hota Hai Pyaar' and 'Guns and Roses' before giving it up and heading to New York to learn acting. " I wasn't growing. The five years that I spent in TV, I didn't have time to read, watch films and felt stagnated doing the same thing," says Amit. But he is quick to add, "I'm very proud of my TV background. That has been my foundation and I got lot of love from the viewers during my stint on small screen."

The actor's last TV outing was in 2006 and after that there was a sudden lull in Sadh's career. By then Sadh had decided to move on to films because it was a 'natural progression'. But rejections were plenty and there were days, when Sadh candidly admits, he sat in his room staring at empty space and doing nothing. Wasn't it a big risk to quit a full fledged career in TV and start from a scratch? "Of course it was a big risk. Life is a big risk. But I believe in living it fearlessly. I am a Delhi boy and was coerced by my family to join the Army but one fine day I decided to pack my bags and come to Mumbai to pursue my dream. I think that was a big risk in itself. So I have taken risks in the past- took it as a challenge and thankfully it paid off in the end," says Sadh. The actor is also honest to admit that there were several days when he felt he had taken the wrong decision but "very good friends talked me out on those days and helped me stay focused."

After appearing in films like 'Phoonk 2' and 'Maximum', Amit got his big break as one of three leads in 'Kai Po Che!'. Would he have wanted to make his debut in a film which just had him as the main lead? "I take up whatever comes by way. Whatever excites me. Just feel extremely lucky being a part of great story which is already a best selling novel by Chetan Bhagat'.

Based on Bhagat's book 'The 3 Mistakes of My Life', 'Kai Po Che!' narrates the story of three friends in backdrop of Gujarat earthquake and the riots that took place in 2002. Amit plays Omi aka Omkar Shastri- an aimless youth who loves his friends more than anything else. The film premiered recently at the Berlin Film Festival and got rave reviews from international critics.

Amit is happy that he is making his foray into films at a time when lot of interesting films are being made. "I think it is an amazing time for cinema. Lots of interesting films are being made and I'm just happy to be a part of this new wave that has hit Bollywood."

When asked, who his favourite is among the newcomers,Sadh diplomatically says, "They are all talented. Just to be here, to make it this far is not easy so I can't pick one. All are very talented."

With a wishlist consisting of working in films with Anurag Kashyap, Dibakar Bannerjee and the likes, Amit is all set to make his big splash on silver screen this 25th February. While he is not willing to answer what he is doing post 'Kai Po Che!', he does say that he is eager to experiment and be part of great stories and do complex characters before signing off. Think he has already taken a step forward towards his dream.
