VELLORE: “Branches of Junior Red Cross Societies will be inaugurated in all 514 middle schools across the district,” M Rajamaniackam, district educational officer said while inaugurating a JRS at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School on Tuesday. The occasion also marked the inauguration of JRS in all middle schools in the blocks of Katpadi, KV Kuppam, Gudiyattam, Pernambut and Madanur in the first phase while in the remaining blocks, it would take place in the next four days.Each JRS would have a minimum of ten students led by the school headmaster or a teacher assigned for the work.Rajamaniackam said, “The focus is to create awareness among students and the general public on health, service and friendship.” Speaking on the occasion, RDO S Jayasree, president of the taluk unit of the JRS, said that it would be a good opportunity for the student community to imbibe the sense of service.
