New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Sunday ruled out troop reduction in the strife-torn state.
Azad said that the terrorists were still active in the valley and those who claim normalcy has returned are "misguiding the people".
"We have been repeatedly saying the time is not ripe for troop reduction in the valley," news agency PTI quoted him as saying in Baramulla.
Azad was in Baramulla to offer condolences to the family of Congress leader Jan Mohammed Kakroo who was gunned down by militants on Sunday morning.
The CM also said that the present situation in the valley showed that "terrorists are still active here as they keep on showing their presence. We need troop presence in the state to curb those powers who don't want peace to prevail".
In an indirect reference to coalition partner People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Azad was quoted as saying, "those who say normalcy has returned and are advocating troop reduction are just misguiding the common people".
