With the Onam festivities gathering momentum, a section of employees under the Kerala Jewellery Workers’ Welfare Fund Board (KJWWFB) are struggling to make ends meet.

The idea of celebration is the farthest in their minds as they are yet to receive salaries for the past four months. The workers, who are based at Thiruvananthapuram and Thrissur, have been serving the board for at least a year.

There has been no action taken by the Board till date, adding to the frustration of the employees.

“The Board had told us that we would receive the salaries soon. But when we saw that they were not taking any steps to pay us, we approached them and demanded for our right. However, they have not paid us yet,” said an employee.

A sum of more than Rs 5 lakh is yet to be paid to the KJWWFB employees. They alleged that they were being denied of their salaries while those who were working under the other sections have been taken care of. “The staff working under the senior officials have been paid their salaries. When we approached the Board members, they said that they are planning to borrow money from the Kerala Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board.
