BANGALORE/MYSORE: Claiming that they had a major role to play in the victory of independent candidate B Sriramulu in the Bellary byelection, former chief minister and JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy said the winner was enjoying the confidence of all sections of the society in the region, irrespective of caste or creed. The byelection results had exhibited the popularity of Sriramulu, who had emerged as the winner in the stiffly contested election, Kumaraswamy said. Refusing to comment on Sriramulu’s plans to float a new regional party in the state, the former CM said, “He (Sriramulu) is free to take any decision.” Kumaraswamy, however, said that he will support any party that opposes the BJP and Congress parties.“The verdict has sent the shivers down the national parties, which were defeated in Bellary,” he said.On the no-confidence motion against Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah, he said that his brother H D Revanna will make an appropriate decision on the issue.
