Iranian film gets top honours at IFFI
Iranian film Iron Island won the prestigious Golden Peacock award while the Special Jury award went to director Tom Hopper.

Panaji: Iranian film Iron Island directed by Mohd Rasoulof won the prestigious Golden Peacock award for the best film on Sunday as the 36th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) concluded.

Iron Island is about a group of homeless men, women and children who live on an abandoned ship under the watchful eyes of a self-appointed and autocratic captain.

The 2005 film had been screened at all major festivals, including Cannes and won the Critics Award at the Hamburg Festival.

The Golden Peacock award comprises of Rs 10 lakh.

The Special Jury award went to Tom Hopper, director of South African film Red Dust.

Red Dust is a story which deals with the intimacy that violence creates between the people it connects. The award comprises of a silver peacock and Rs five lakh.

The awards were presented in a glittering ceremony held at Dinananath Mangueshkar auditorium of Kala Academy in Panaji.

Malayalam film Perumazhakkalam, which focuses on the vicitimisation of women in an unequal society and the hugely popular Brazilian film Olga were the other frontrunners for the prestigious Golden Peacock at IFFI.
