New Delhi: Chances of Jacques Kallis playing in the first cricket Test against Australia in Perth begining Friday are slim.
A team spokesman said the allrounder will be given right up until the start of the match to prove his fitness despite lingering concerns about the injury.
The world's No. 1 ranked batsman sustained the injury in India recently and missed all three warm-up matches in Australia.
He joined his team mates in a practice session at the WACA nets on Wednesday but was restricted to a few overs of medium pace bowling and did not bat.
Australian opening batsman, Matthew Hayden, said it will be disappointing for both teams if Kallis was ruled out.
Tour stand-in batsman Jacques Rudolph, however, has staked claim for a place in the side in the likely absence of Kallis, with an unbeaten 201 in a three-day match against Western Australia.
