THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The two-day national integration magic summit termed ‘India Jaal’ got underway here on Saturday. Deputy Speaker N Sakthan inaugurated the magic show at Vyloppylli Samskrithi Bhavan. The magic show is jointly organised by the Magic Academy and Department of Tourism. N Sakthan said that the government should seriously think about organising fairs for the magicians annually on the model of film fest and drama fest.Street magicians from all over India will present their shows at the open grounds set up at AKG hall and St Joseph’s school. Speaking on the occasion, magician Muthukad said that the street magicians are simply incomparable to the modern magicians who often perform their tricks on enclosed stages."These magicians are pure performers. They do their tricks on open grounds and are extremely confident of beguiling their audience and are never scared of losing the secret behind their magic. Unfortunately, these men are seldom recognised. ‘India Jaal’ is a platform exclusively meant for street magicians,’’ he said.Muthukad added that the occasion would also be a good venue for the magicians to promote national integration. M Nandakumar, Director, Information and Public Relations Department, was also present on the occasion. The Speaker also honoured the street magicians on the occasion. American magician Darsh Wood will perform in the two-day event.
