India is a country known for its villages and agricultural life. Despite the development of metropolitan cities, a majority of people still prefer to live in villages. Spending life in a village has multiple advantages, as it helps people live closer to nature and away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Many people decide to start a family or simply live a calmer life by living in villages. Do you know the biggest village in India? It is located in the Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh. The name of the village is Gahmar. It has a population of more than 1 lakh and 20 thousand. At the same time, there are about 25 thousand voters in this village. Another reason that makes the village popular is that it has about 12 thousand people who have joined the Indian army. Some of them are even posted at higher levels. Apart from that, there are many retired soldiers and officers as well. The village has its own culture, where every household sends their children to the army. There are some households where the grandfather is a retired officer and their grandson is preparing to join the Indian army.
As per reports, the soldiers belonging to the Gahmar village participated enthusiastically in wars including the wars of 1965, 1971, and Kargil. It is said that during the Second World War, some of the soldiers from this village also joined the British army. Even today, there is a stone inscription in their memory in the village. After a massive participation of people in the wars, the village also had recruitment camps to include people in the army. Later it was banned, and now people travel to Roorkee, Lucknow, and Secunderabad.
Talking about Gahmar, it is located on the banks of the Ganges, which is about 40 kilometres from the Ghazipur district. As per the official data, Gahmar village was settled in 1530 by Kusum Dev Rao at a place called Sakra Deeh. The village also has the famous Kamakhya Devi temple, which is a big centre of faith for the people of Bihar, including eastern Uttar Pradesh.
