In Suraj Revanna Sexual Assault Case, FIR Says He Told Victim 'It'll Be Better Next Time'
The FIR stated that Karnataka MLC Suraj Revanna promised a job to the JD(S) worker if he agreed to be with him and said since this was their first time, the experience will be better next time

A 27-year-old JD(S) worker told police that Karnataka MLC Suraj Revanna forced him to have sexual intercourse with him and said it will be “better next time” after repeatedly assaulting him at a farmhouse in Hassan district’s Gannikada on June 16.

Suraj, who is the brother of rape-accused former MP Prajwal Revanna, was arrested on charges of “unnatural offences” on Sunday, following which the case was transferred to the CID. According to a report published by India Today, the FIR in the case is a graphic description of the horror the JD(S) worker went through during the alleged sexual assault, in which he was forced to perform anal and oral sex.

The FIR stated that Suraj promised a job to the JD(S) worker if he agreed to be with him and said since this was their first time, the experience will be better next time.

What happened at the farmhouse?

Suraj invited the JD(S) worker to the farmhouse and asked him to arrive around 6 pm. Once the victim entered the room, Suraj asked him to shut the door and approached him without warning, the FIR said. He placed his hands on the victim’s shoulders, caressed his ears and kissed him, the FIR added.

In the FIR, the victim said the situation quickly escalated and he could not appropriately respond as he was overwhelmed with fear. He said he protested at the MLC’s actions and asked him to stop, but he threatened to kill saying he comes from a politically influential family.

The victim told police that he was promised a flourishing career if he agreed to be with him. Soon after, the FIR said, the victim was dragged to the bedroom where Suraj tightly hugged him tightly, bit his cheeks and started touching his private parts.

Despite his pleas to stop, the victim was forced into anal and oral sex, following which he finally begged Suraj to stop. But, the JD(S) leader continued with the assault and told him it will become easier with time, the FIR stated.

Suraj also told him that if he obeys him and continues to meet him when asked to, he will have a promising political career and also get a job. The MLC also asked the victim to apologise for not responding well and to message him once he returned home.

According to the FIR, the party worker went into depression after the incident and narrated his ordeal to Shivakumar, a close aide of Suraj. The victim had met Suraj when he came to Kollangi village in Hassan district during the Lok Sabha elections. They both exchanged numbers and Suraj told him that they could meet later, the FIR said.

What is Suraj Revanna saying?

Suraj, who is the grandson of former prime minister HD Deve Gowda and nephew of Union minister HD Kumaraswamy, has categorically refuted the charge. He alleged the man had filed a false complaint against him in a bid to extort Rs 5 crore from him.

On June 21, police registered a case of extortion against the JD(S) worker on a complaint by Shivakumar to whom he had narrated the incident of sexual assault. The aide alleged that the party worker was trying to extort money from Suraj by threatening to lodge a false case of sexual assault against him.

It has been alleged that while the man demanded Rs 5 crore from Suraj, later it was reduced to Rs 2 crore.

What happens next?

Karnataka home minister G Parameshwara said the case is being handed over to the CID, adding “a series of similar cases were given to CID, this is also being given to CID”. Regarding a complaint by Suraj Revanna, he said, “Whatever action needs to be taken on that, will be taken.”

On Suraj alleging a conspiracy against his family, Parameshwara said, “Complaint has come, based on it whatever action needs to be taken in accordance with law, is being taken. Other than that I don’t know about any political conspiracy that he has alleged.”

Police sources said the JD(S) leader was questioned at Cyber Economic and Narcotics (CEN) crime police station in Hassan overnight, before he was arrested this morning. He was later taken to Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS) for medical examination, they said.

The case against the MLC was registered under IPC sections 377 (unnatural offences), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 506 (criminal intimidation) late on Saturday evening (June 22).
